For 3 days in June, we helped to run Sundown (DemoScene Party) down in sunny Budleigh Salterton. We’ve been doing this for a number of years now in conjunection with Ruairi Fullum (@rc55), Dan Barber (@danbee) and other helpers (Waffle, Ziphoid to name but two).
This year was absolutely spot on, the atmosphere was buzzing the whole weekend. We had 100% network uptime, 100% wifi coverage, Big screen + 3 video projectors all working properly backed by a great PA system. And i think – for the first time in sundown history – the whole event went as scheduled with zero delays!
Big shout out to fellow crew members who all put in a fantastic effort in putting on this event.

Oh no it’s me (in green) above! I’m monitoring the network, helping to keep the event’s video stream up. We only had a single ADSL line coming into the hall, so keeping 100+ devices online is no easy task! We used two Raspberry Pis to run DNS, DHCP and IRC, a Draytek router for bandwidth throttling and connection rate limiting and 3x Unifi wireless access points.
